About Nevinorver

Updated 29 May 2026

Nevinorver is an independent editorial notebook about the trees that grow around us in Canada. It collects short, practical notes on identifying common species by their leaves and bark, and on understanding the urban canopy — the layer of street and park trees that shapes daily life in Canadian towns and cities.

What this site is

The writing here is informational and observational. Each article works through a single way of looking at a tree, uses examples that are widespread across Canada, and points to public, authoritative references for anyone who wants to read further.

What this site is not

Nevinorver does not sell anything, diagnose tree health, or replace the judgement of a qualified arborist. Decisions about removing, pruning, or planting trees on private or public land should involve a local professional and the relevant municipal rules.

Sources and images

Species facts are kept general where precise figures are not at hand, and external links go to public bodies such as Natural Resources Canada and Tree Canada. Photographs are drawn from Wikimedia Commons under their respective open licences.
